What started off looking like it may be another dreadful day for Matthew Stafford and the Lions, took a tremendous turn in the second half for yet another come-from-behind Lions victory, and a historic day for Stafford. Yesterday Stafford became the first Lion QB since Bobby Layne, the John Daily of the NFL, to throw for four touchdowns on four occasions. The Lion’s 1st half woes continues, but that didn’t spot the boys-in-blue from running off 49 points on their way to a 49-35 victory over Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers.
Kevin Smith had a career day running for 140 yards, on 16 carries, and two touchdowns. “God is good,” said Smith, who this time last month Smith was unsigned in Florida where his daily regimen consisted of training from 7:00 A.M. to noon, then returning home to play with his son.
The Lions move to 7-3 and are feeling better than ever heading into a short week with the undefeated and lethal Green Bay, coming into town Thursday for a Thanksgiving shootout at Ford Field. Apparently the quality of the opponent directly correlates with the quality of the pregame buffet in the clubhouse, because we had fried chicken.
I had the opportunity to meet Detroit legend, Mitch Albom, in the press box. I informed him that I am doing a profile on him for the next edition of Sportz Detroit Magazine, and set up a phone interview in the coming weeks. Albom recently celebrated the premiere of his latest film, “Have a Little Faith.” The film is based on Albom’s 2009 New York Times bestseller of the same name. It’s the true story of Rabbi Lewis and Henry Covington (played by Laurence Fishburne), pastor of I Am My Brother’s Keeper Ministries.
