By Kevin Alan Lamb

I’ve been wondering for so long, if anything’s worth wondering at all?

Days come and pass, with only experience left to last

I can feel purpose more present, with every breath I take

Concentrating my energy on helping others, and to create

Coffee shops and cool brisk breezes, help me reminisce in my space

Despite fast paces and traces of faces come and gone, before long there comes a time when every man must continue writing his song

While the words aren’t always present, lyrics of others and focused breath help surface the resin

There are moments now and then, when I feel the light within me pushing to burst out

It starts from my heart and works its way through my veins, and into my eyes

No matter my joy it manifests tears, and reminds that I may only be an instrument learning to perform its function with enough gumption to stay the course, practice remorse, and retrace my gifts and intuitions to the source

The weight of the world is no longer on my chest

Those I love, and will soon love, have unburdened my breath

It appears the lives I touch, prefer to help, than blush

The more I look the more I see, goodness is growing readily apparent, like the fall leaves, changing colors on the trees

What some considered outrageous, has been revealed contagious

We are all a character in one another’s play, and the show must go on!

So let us brighten the lights, and loosen our sights, on the nights we are lonely, if only to remind of the times we taste, smell, and feel the way love shines through the pines, trickling down the divine, inspiring tingles down our spine, into our fingers and toes, and so energy goes and flows through he and she who seek, yet never know

We are electric when our eclectic gifts and vision, are given away to those who pray, for a way to persevere through the fear which disables, and enables darkness and doubt to cloud their vision, and be left wishin’, for more than a prayer in a well that fell with the silver from their hand, like sand in an hourglass, passing too fast to even gasp

And one day we will be gone, so today, tomorrow, and the next, we must sing our song, long, and with courage and belief that our passion provides relief for a even a thief in the night, who has lost sight of the decent and right, after falling on hard times and crimes levied against hearts and minds once pure, to lure them from their side of the fight.

But don’t grow cold from this battle, or its shadow cast over righteousness, joy, and devout light

It will be your fortitude which frees you from the fever of prolonged pain and suffering in your life

It will be your intuition and integrity that speak to you amidst 30-dark-days and 30-dark-nights

It will be your decency that restores faith, flashing bright

It will be you who changes the world

It will be you who decides the fate of man

It will be you who ensures goodness prevails,

When you decide you can…

Free love for those with lips like the drugs that thugs kills and die for. Joy inside her heart that lifts hearts and heals them just before they fall apart. With a light so bright her kisses ignite a spirit so loud the whole world will hear it once they learn to listen for what they’ve been missing with their wasted wishing. But that which fuels motion is no potion to be bought or sold like the gold fools fish for in empty places without traces of truth. It can only be given away to those who stay consistent and enlisted in the practice of peace and please with love not grease and coercion. Goodness comes in but one version – to improve and not delude the quality of cheer in the years of the lives we touch and the blood that does gush through the veins of those with a tight grip on their guiding reins in pursuit of life, will and wonder.

We grow and show the flow of vibrating frequencies that help others speak easy and freely exposes their passion in doses and closes the case on a race that fear being themselves. Our vulnerability broadcasts our human condition and offers hope for folks wishing for help and a hand as the sands of time shape us with their persistent pressure and measure our fortitude and vigor while cowards take stabs and sliver our skin until we bleed into rivers and feed the need for thirst in enduring dark spirits.

To prevail we must unveil our care and kindness and scare away the darkness in our collective proclamation to the tyrants of the world that we will not be silenced or oppressed quietly into the night. If given the choice between fight or flight we must recognize who and what we ought to be willing to fight for and with and to what extent our commitment needs to be lent to ensure the crooked are the ones bent and sent a message that our unified light will outshine even the darkness night and ensure tomorrow can borrow hope from the spirit of the day gone past.

I remember the days when I couldn’t breathe

Life was heavy on my chest trying to blind me from visions I needed to see

Struggle and doubt will ring a man out, but some men still to choose to believe

With one deep inhale of clean, Michigan air – I feel free

I remember the faces we helped bring to the light

No matter the burdens placed on our shoulders, we can still shine bright

Struggle and doubt will ring a man out, but some men still dream through the night

With one deep exhale a vision has become a mission taking flight

I remember the tears that helped me process both gratitude and pressure

Through my own struggle for breath I learned to love first and later measure

Struggle and doubt will ring a man out, but some discover other’s happiness is great pleasure

With eyes closed and heart upon sleeve, it resonates that helping others is my treasure

I remember the nights my heart ached for the suffering on this earth

I remember waking in the morning and choosing to make a difference, rather than curse

Struggle and doubt will ring a man out, but some hold close that others have it worse

With eyes gazing into the blue, Michigan, summer-sky, my worried soul is nursed

I remember seeing progress in the lives we touched

I remember what it felt like when strangers paid it forward and inspired blush

Struggle and doubt will ring a man out, but some men set their sights on more magnanimous things than touch

Connected to the the world I live and love in, I contend that the good fight is such.

Jobs

By Kevin Alan Lamb

Despite our accomplishments we constantly measure ourselves with the world around us: whether it is a comparison to our peers or the great leaders, innovators or revolutionaries come and past. I don’t see this as defeating, rather, recognition of the traits and actions we find admirable in the physical world which we occupy. While watching “Jobs” last night, the story of Apple founder, Steve Jobs, I found myself evaluating my strengths and weaknesses as they compared to Jobs. Floored with emotion from a compelling film that seemed to intercept me just as our Good Sign is taking flight, I found it impossible to sleep.

It is alright to look inside of your soul and discover unrest; it is healthy to recognize your weakness without attempting to break yourself down; it is alright to recognize and work on accepting your inadequacies. Jobs is an inspiration because he wished to use technology to give infinite power to the people, similar to the way we wish to ignite a fervent passion in all of you to chase your dreams, challenge conventions, define and uphold your integrity, and with enough pressure over time, change the world. All along I’ve believed I could change the world, but I will tell you, all of your support has made it a lot more tangible. With my throat worn from a life of constant and emphatic communication, I digress to my fingers and these keys to once more carry my voice across the Seven Seas.

We are a powerful people and I believe we have started acting like it. We are a beautiful people and all of your commitment and love is enabling communities around the world to bear witness to it. We are just beginning a journey that has no end. I am proud of each and every one of you for rising to the occasion and giving mankind a good sign in the form of a protagonist that stands not for few but many. I am proud of you without knowing the sound of your voice; I am proud of you without knowing your name; I am proud of you without knowing what you dream to one day be; I am proud of you because I recognize the look in your eyes; I am proud of you because I know what makes your heart beat; I am proud of you and smile, gazing upon the setting sun and horizon where we will one day meet.

"This Is A Good Sign"

By Kevin Alan Lamb

By Kevin Alan Lamb

My name is Kevin. I am 29, white, 6’7, former collegiate athlete, dreamer, lover and hopeful romantic. For most of my life my friends and even family didn’t think I was making anything of myself; for most of my life my father told me to get a haircut and get a job; for most of my life the people that love me most wished I’d stop giving myself to ideas and causes that didn’t return the certain promise of money. It’s a difficult thing to believe in yourself and your dreams: it’s even more difficult when the ones you love insist that you’re wasting your time, talents, and passion on things that they’re certain will condemn you. Despite the lack of support from the places I would have loved it the most, I endured. I continued to pursue my passion and with the help of the music that inspired me, I decided to make it my life. It was rarely easy but always worth it. I believe it is a tragedy that artists and other creatives receive so little support in their pursuit of their love, passion, and ultimate choice to make their “vocation their vacation”, Mark Twain.

Our biggest shortcoming as a species is our inability to commit: to ourselves, to our passion, and to the ones we love. For too long we have been letting one another and ourselves down and it’s not acceptable. I have made the decision to concern myself with the well-being of our species, the well-being of our planet, and it’s how I plan to spend my time while here on this earth. It’s not always easy but I’m working on letting go of my ego, my desire to be with a woman I love, and fulfill my benevolent duty as a citizen of a world community. For years I was laughed at for carrying my Good Sign with me everywhere I went; for years I was underestimated and judged for a vision that was burned upon my retina, and impossible to surrender. The world will shame you at every moment’s opportunity, carry on anyway; your friends and family will scrutinize you for believing in something bigger than yourself and them, believe anyway; struggle will plague and attempt to define you, love anyway!

These days it’s difficult for me to write without tears in my eyes. I am a pretty happy person but I feel the weight of the world melting as I strike my fingers to these keys. With Nahko and Medicine for the People playing in my headphones, I am gifted all the courage I need to proceed from line to line. I don’t write as often as I should but I’m working on it. I am living my philosophy, passion, and writing my story with my choices and actions. My roommate is the most beautiful woman I know. She is tall, she is kind, she cares, she helps the desperate, she is Bosnian, she was forced to flee from her country because of genocide, she loves the music that I do, she loves the beer that I do, she loves the people that I do, she loves those worth loving, and she is gay. If you have a problem with the way another loves, I have a problem with you. If you believe that anyone endures a life of scrutiny, hardship, and abuse by choice, you’re an idiot! If you have ever been misunderstood to the point that it made your soul ache, I ask you to reconsider your stance on a matter that doesn’t affect you, yet you affect it. Our neglect and purposeful hate is contributing to the abuse of spectacular human beings that have done nothing but love to receive it. It took us a long time and the help of a great man, Abe Lincoln to abolish slavery, yet we’re still readily willing to enslave gay men and women with our close-minds and bigotry. Open your heart and open your mind and you will discover love and all of its possibilities. Gift another the blessing of belief and acceptance and you will discover yourself and your potential. I believe that you can be better but I cannot walk by your side to always remind you. I believe that you can grow but my belief is irrelevant without your own. Let us stand up for our fellow humans and support them the way we wished the ones we love had once supported us; let us evolve and reflect the image of the person we wish to project to our children; let us surrender our hate and misconceptions of the way love ought to look. We can be so much better and it’s time we start acting like it. Goodness will change your life if you open your heart and feel it. Light will infect and inspire you once your eyes are open and willing to see it. It is time to heal the individual and the masses; it is time to show up for the ones we love, and may one day love. I am not asking you to walk alone, but to walk with me. Let us take one baby step at a time towards a mutual beneficial awakening; let us advance your position despite struggle and scrutiny; help us shape a world we wished we lived and loved in.

You are the Key to the Kingdom

By Kevin Alan Lamb

We can lift you up. We can help you out. We can help you smile. We can help you laugh. We can help you love yourself. We can help you love others. But we want you to embrace that you can lift yourself up. You can help yourself out. You can remind yourself to smile. You can make yourself laugh. You can remember how to love yourself. You can lift others from darkness and despair. You can offer others a helping hand when they appear to have none. You can give someone a reason to smile who hasn’t had one in a while. You can inspire laughter in someone who needs it even though they won’t ever let you know. You can help others recognize the love in their lives. You can help others learn to help themselves.

You are the difference. You possess the power of one. You are the leader this world needs. You are the key to the Kingdom we seek. You are our hope. You are our dreams. You are the person we wish to see when we look in the mirror each morning. Close your eyes, open your heart, take a deep breath and live extraordinarily! You can do it, we believe in you. Carry yourself with enthusiasm and pursue your passion with confidence and conviction. Carry yourself so you can prepare to carry others. Carry our hope so it may be passed to those who one day follow in our righteousness and revelry.

Winter, the Soul and the Self

05 Wednesday Feb 2014

By Kevin Alan Lamb

By Kevin Alan Lamb

I escaped the practiced tolerance of winter in Michigan to celebrate its wonder in the great north of Traverse City. For those of us from the greater Detroit area, winter is too often understood and experienced as the painful moments that occur between our labor and leisure: rising while darkness lingers; counting the seconds with heavy breath as our cars unfreeze and begin to emit warmth upon our being; careless drivers that elicit rage within us that we didn’t know existed; the inkling of hope that either school or work will be canceled or acceptably missed due to an immense snow fall, below freezing temperatures, along with anything else that falls under the blanket term, “Snowpocalypse”.

While submerged within the grind, we lose touch of the beautiful subtleties there are to be appreciated during winter in Michigan. While in the midst of prevailing cold and darkness, such beauties are easily abandoned in the wake of spending hours shoveling our driveway for the third time in a week; or removing the accumulated snowfall on top of your car with your bare hand because you have either not found your wiper from the year before, or have been to off-put by the task itself to purchase one in the first place. While the weight of winter seems to weigh heaviest as a result of the brutal conditions, I believe the cold of winter causes individuals to look within themselves for warmth, and in those that look but do not find – panic ensues. It is during the winter months most of all that we must be our own source of inspiration and hope. Quit looking around the room, close your eyes, take a breath, and accept that you must start showing up, or continue fleeing from your happiness and potential. Please understand, once you start running it’s difficult to ever stop. Let the coldness of this winter help you find balance and harmony within yourself so that you can be armed with the proper tools to seek it in the world! If you so choose to ignore the necessity of being a little happy along the way, you will eternally suffer, and fail to ever arrive at the conceptualized mirage of happiness you have manifest upon the horizon.

Happiness ought to be more present within, when the climate is less likely to insist it! I often understand happiness as the presence and participation of passion in my daily life. This could be realized in something big or something small; in something silly or something serious; the only thing that matters is the passion is an extension of your soul and self and ultimately recognition of yourself in the physical world. Myself is realized and recognized in the places I travel; in the conversations I share, and the thoughts I translate into words with my fingers. My passion is reciprocated in the bright-shining-smile of a stranger I just made acquaintance with: in his or her belief that the world needs our species to be inspired and turn that inspiration into action that will translate into our mutual beneficence: in his or her hope that people like us will continue to surface and be present in a society that conditions us to act, think and feel otherwise! Life void of inspiration and passion will not endure, only perish. Surviving is not an acceptable personal philosophy: like flowers we must collect energy in the form of positive light and flourish in ascension towards the source of life! Discover yourself in your beautiful passion and dreams this winter so next winter you can help another you care for do the same!

Good Sign Mobile HQ, Traverse City

05 Wednesday Feb 2014

By Kevin Alan Lamb

By Kevin Alan Lamb

Within 30 minutes of establishing Good Sign Mobile HQ at Brew in downtown Traverse City, I have already made meaningful connections with the wonderful locals. Proudly displaying my Good Sign as it rests on the padded seat back above my head, I write and work with a stack of Good Sign giveaways on the edge of my table as curious and interested patrons pass by and help themselves to a daily dose of portable positivity. The lady to my left thanked me for the positive energy I am depositing into the world, and their wonderful local community. Another gentleman stopped at my table and shared how just this morning, he and his friend were discussing the idea of a “be positive” sticker as a vehicle for the positive energy they wished to share with their local community. We are a wonderful species, hungry for goodness and the connectivity that will undoubtedly ensue with its regular practice and insistence! Like a tree we will continue to plant in your hometown around the world, starting a positive conversation so that you are more comfortable joining in and strengthening our voice. We are providing the satellite that will broadcast your kindness, care and unique talents to the entire world! We have done and will continue to do the heavy lifting; it’s time for you to reciprocate the faith we have placed in humanity and gift another the opportunity to rise and shine in the light of a species that once and for all internalizes the philosophy that we are better together!

Man-kind is hungry for the goodness that we offer with every waking breath of our lives. Humans are uncomfortable with oppression, hunger, and desperation. We are a delicate species both easily inspired and broken to pieces. We surrender our keys to the kingdom, giving them to people, ideas and ideals that we may or may not even believe in or agree with. Armed with conscious and self-consciousness, we are able to construct our perception to benefit ourselves, others, and hopefully both, yet too often we play the part of the helpless! Of the voiceless… You are neither and it is our belief and practiced philosophy that your time is running out! We wish to create a world that does encourage nor give credence to perceived helplessness. The credo “Power to the people” only proves true when the people hold on to their power; when they fight and claw for their ability to shape and positively influence the world around them! We are given the keys at conception, but it is a personal responsibility and opportunity to maintain their control and open the doors that hide darkness, closed, in plain sight. We must challenge the status-quo because currently, it tolerates and reinforces the suffering of both the individual and the masses! Our leaders are not fulfilling their job description. It is not the duty of a leader to practice and instill the popular idea or way of life. It is not the duty of a leader to ask his or her faithful followers to remain blindfolded to the error in his or her ways. Convention must be challenged so that our actions trend towards uplifting the defeated, rather than ensuring their fate upon the ground which we walk. It is so simple we tend to refuse to see it: it is needed so much we continue to bleed hunger rather than feed it.

Medicine

By Kevin Alan Lamb

People medicate in all different ways: drugs, alcohol, lust, music, the introduction of suffering in others. I believe we are offering mankind a form of medication that doesn’t cost a dollar, damage the mind, body or spirit, and actually helps others medicate as well. We are giving people the ability to recognize that they possess the keys to the kingdom; that health and happiness are a personal responsibility and opportunity! We often hedge our bets and put stock in people and places that eventually let us down, because really – only you can choose to be or acknowledge the way you are. It is okay to let people into your happiness, but do so with care, and the understanding that they may not be constants. People let us down all the time but that isn’t an excuse to let go of the very things that move you and make you who you are!

A united species is a powerful and pervasive force that our planet has never known. We would pose a threat to a way of life that many are accustomed to because it suits them and their gaudy comfort. We are similar and beautifully unique. Ultimately, we seek the same setting sun upon the horizon; experience joy as a result of the same longings; and suffer as a result of the same perceived inadequacies and deficiencies. If we begin to hold ourselves accountable, rather than scapegoating our happiness, it will reveal our thought processes and actions that are not acceptable and inspire growth from fires that breath below. It will not be scrutiny but empathy that helps facilitate another’s growth and evolution, bringing us closer to a common understanding of health and happiness. Consider the burden of another’s pain and suffering before you pick them apart because of it. Offer to help before contemplating why someone needs it. Start showing up for yourself so you can be present for others. Address your fears and perceived inadequacies so you can heal and help others do the same: they need you; we need you.

By Kevin Alan Lamb

Sweet for you and what you do to me

Your beauty consumes me

The thought and feeling of you moves me

My mind wanders and wonders what could be?

Even with my eyes closed your light lets me see

Being inspired by another brings me reciprocity

Imagining your warmth sets me free

Awaiting the moment you climb me like a tree

All because I decided what to be

I hope you believe in me

I hope once with me, you’ll never want to leave

I can’t lose the wonderful image of your bright smile and white-shining-teeth

I wish to help you breathe with ease

Inspire tingles to your knees

Blow by your side in a gentle breeze

Sail with you across the Seven Seas

Sweat with you in 100 degrees

Softly kiss you from head to toe

This fervent passion is certain to grow

I press your body against mine

In such few precious moments can we elude time

Free ourselves from all limitations, left to experience

Your eyes, luscious lips and kisses make me delirious

Let me in and you will never want me to leave

We must hold on tight and never forget to breathe

Lose ourselves under the night’s sky and stars, like Adam and Eve

Without any conscious choice you have instilled within me – need

Flying above the clouds in the sky I close my eyes – blessed to receive

Growing closer to you in both physical and emotional perception

My star, you illuminate the blue sky in which I fly and I shine in your reflection.

Sets Me Free Eric Hampton

Your smile shines bright and is in my heart when I fall asleep each night

Your belief in me inspires vision beyond my usual sight

I feel you running through my veins and will not fight it

You have excited the part of me that I had taken off the table

When I feel you in my breath I believe romantic love is able

Surely it is a road full of twists and turns as each of us once more learns just what it means

But I know it is a road I wish to venture

Your intelligence, wit and wonder, that I’ve never known in a lover

I believe that you could make everything better

My star that shines no matter the weather

Tingles through my bones lift me light like a feather

Two simple but heavy words: better together

You are an old soul that reminds me of my own

No matter my struggles I would persevere in a world where you are my home

When we fall it is fast and with little hesitation, because of the positive vibration felt that cannot be denied, and while lesser of souls may hide, I feel we will both choose to conquer the divide, to provide the other cover in even the most treacherous storms, into arms that warm and love that swarms like family does when trouble is foreshadowed

When we fall it will be with one another, with wide-eyes and delicious kisses and a heart that always misses, but is never without, because love disarms doubt

When we meet the world will see just what it means to love and be loved

When we dance onlookers will be greeted with a more clear depiction of infatuation and the conviction of choice and commitment over time while I make you mine

When we cry it will be for and with the other because neither worry nor pride are conditions reserved solely for mothers

When we sleep it will be with peaceful hearts and minds at ease because for each other’s love we will never have to ask please

When we sing our souls will be in harmony warding off the darkness that wishes to harm me

When we bleed we will remind one another it comes as a result of our need to be wounded so we can learn just how to help the other heal

While processing the weight of these words there is reluctance overcame by the way I feel, and my lifelong belief that true love is real. Real Eric Hampton_________________________________________________________________

Feel This Way

It is difficult to conceive that only days ago you were not carried in my heart

It is difficult to believe that only days ago I didn’t desire you from afar

It was difficult  to see that my plan to remain free is being abandoned for the light of a shining star

It was difficult to need another after my precious heart was deeply scarred

It isn’t difficult to be free of fear that you will bring me harm

It isn’t difficult to agree with my intuition that insists the road before us is long

It isn’t difficult to believe my immense love for music lead me to your song

In each deep breath I feel your goodness inhaled into my chest

In each deep breath I feel my search for my soul’s counterpoint put to rest

In each deep breath I am transcended by the way your smile lights my life

In each deep breath I am transcended to our days together melting away strife

In each deep breath I give way to exhale believing it connects me with you

In each deep breath I give way to exhale and the release of my blues

I imagine your chemical response as these words leap from the page to your soul

I imagine your chemical response when my lips first meet your own

I imagine your chemical response when it resonates within you how I long to be your home

I imagine your chemical response when tears of joy descend from your beautiful brown eyes

I imagine your chemical response when I lie next to you, hand-in-hand to witness our first sunrise.

I wonder how we will remember these first days

I wonder how it will feel to be bathed in your love under the sun’s rays

I wonder just how your love will taste

I long to discover the beauty of our souls at play

I count the days until I embrace the one who makes me feel this way.

Gaze to the Stars

Thankful to influence the world I am blessed to live in. Thankful to inspire goodness in those I love with the gifts I’ve been given. Thankful for a family that continues to grow beyond blood. Thankful for passion that burns without depletion. Optimistic for our mission that endures and knows not completion. Optimistic for the light in my life that grows with every smile. Optimistic for the love in my life that will not be shunned in denial. Optimistic for benevolence to finally be in style. We are drawn to those that help us feel safe. We are drawn to those who choose not to destroy but create. We are moved by those that remind us of the person we can be. We are moved by those that remind us that we are free. We find ourselves in those that we love. We find ourselves when we look for answers in front of us, and not above. We grow once we accept that we must. We grow once we internalize just what it means to trust. We amaze once we believe that we were made to. Gaze to the stars and you may catch one gazing at you.

Commitment and Choice

By Kevin Alan Lamb

Rain is running wild on these paved streets this Halloween. Yet warmth is present and gloom free from the smile on my face. I’m gaining on my dreams at an increasing pace. Dreams that will take me far but always return me to this place. Michigan is my home and that is a choice. I feel progress in every conversation, every voice.

Those I love and many I don’t even know believe in me and it is moving. Poetry these days seems but a distraction even though I once found it soothing. A lesser man than I am today refused to commit to his words. A lesser man than I am today was compromised for undeserving girls. Today these fingers and these hands go to work for the world. Today these fingers and these hands are my vehicle to preach love and peace.

Tomorrow I will rise more eager than today. Tomorrow I will rise and tap into the well that is my soul to find a way to help you believe everything is going to be okay! Years from now all of this will be but a blur. Years from now I may even know the love of her. Years from now they will ask us how we did it? Years from now I will tell them that more than water we are made with love and born to give it! Years from now there will be no doubt of our intentions. Years from now we will laugh when they try and say happiness could be the result of an invention. Years from now we will tell them that only choice could have relieved such tremendous tension.

Only choice and commitment will save our species and planet. Only choice and commitment will save your soul and not damn it. Only choice and commitment will save the things you love. Only choice and commitment will save you from the weight of the world above.
