I get chills every time I listen to this song.

Don’t push me out,
Just a little longer
Stall your mother,
Disregard your father’s words.

Close the laundry door,
Tiptoe across the floor
Keep your clothes on,
I got all that I can take
Teach me how to use
The love that people say you made

Stop your parents’ car
I just saw a shooting star
We can wish upon it
But we wont share the wish we made
But I cant keep no secrets,
I wish that you would always stay

Last night I dreamt the whole night long
I woke with a head full of songs
I spent the whole day
I wrote ’em down, but its a shame
Tonight I’ll burn the lyrics,
‘Cause every chorus was your name

Break this tired old routine
And this time don’t make me leave

I am a breathing time machine,
I’ll take you all for a ride

Well you send my life a whirling
Darling when you’re twirling
On the floor
Who cares about tomorrow?
What more is tomorrow?
Than another day.

When you swept me away
Yeah you swept me away
La la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la

I see the end of the rainbow
But what more is a rainbow
Than colors out of reach
If you come down to my window
And I climb out my window
Then we’ll get out of reach

Then you swept me away
Yeah you swept me away

You said with such honest feeling
But what’d you really mean
When you said that I’m your man
Well how my darling can it be
When you have never seen me
And you never will again

That you swept me away
Yeah you swept me away

Well life is ever changing
But I will always find a constant
And comfort in your love
With your heart my soul is bound
And as we dance I know
That heaven will be found

Well you send my life a whirling
Darling when you’re twirling
On the floor
And who cares about tomorrow?
Girl, what more is tomorrow?
Than another day.

When you swept me away
Yeah you swept me away
Yeah you swept me away

The Avett Brothers – Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise (Official Video)

The Avett Brothers have released a new video for “Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise,” from the band’s latest album I And Love And You. It’s a spare but stunning work of art, featuring the animated paintings of Jason Ryan Mitcham. The video shows the rise, fall and inevitable decay of rampant urban development.

“Head Full Of Doubt/Road Full Of Promise” was written about the temporary nature of our buildings and our mentality,” says Scott Avett. “Accepting the temporary state we may be in. (Artist) Jason (Ryan Mitcham) with his landscape paintings, and some that I’d seen that he’d animated, dealt with the temporary nature of the world around us.”

By Kevin Alan Lamb

Standing at the edge of the world, looking into your eyes in the great distance

Always drawn to the part of you, that moves the part me, to this place so close to the ocean and stars

I have always felt you in my heart, despite your absence in my physical space and consciousness

Little time is spent wondering, however, where you are, or why you still remain between the horizon and where the ocean meets the sand

I will not rearrange my plans and change for you

Because I would not ask you to do the same

A man’s visions and missions are like a heat signature forged to his being, releasing an energy that only certain souls can perceive and endure

Certainty is not of place and time, rather commitment of heart and mind

The decision to bear the blessing and burden of pursuing your dreams and full potential of your abilities

When considering needs, a certain type of man needs both less and more

Less material, but miles and mountains more of everything else

Experiences, friendships, smiles, laughs, goals, sweat, responsibilities, and love

Love is in all things despite our desire for it to be fulfilled in one

A fool trades that which he loves, for that which he thinks he needs

Music in my heart reminds me of the journey both long, adventurous, and fulfilling before me

My skin and bones will fail before my heart and mind

I will conquer fear with hope, and not be deterred but motivated by struggle and strife

Celebrate adversity with apparent freedom and the unbounded possibility it encourages

Focus amidst thunder and lightning, fixate your eyes on tangible feats through pouring rain

Pain is proof of your desire to achieve

Belief brings the broken and beaten, back to life

Discover what it is you love about yourself, before you seek it in the world

Move yourself and embrace the reciprocal movement of inspiration from others

Remember the stars you gazed upon as a child, and never voluntarily tame your soul, if it was created wild.

The Avett Brothers new album, The Carpenter

I’ve been waiting for this album for some time! Along with the release of Mumford and Sons new album, this fall is certain to make your ears fall in love, perhaps for the first time, or all over again. This release came at a good time for me: I believe we get what we need, when we need it, and we bleed because we’re human, don’t be defeated.

It is a very subdued listen: generally their albums alternate from a slow song to an upbeat, get you on dancing on your feet track. This is their first album to break that  pattern. I’m not sure how I feel about it quite yet. With the theme of mortality running deep in The Carpenter, perhaps this album reflects their progress as human beings, Christians, musicians… what they have learned and come to reflect back over. It sounds like they are settling down, but I am certain they will be back to their head banging, grass folk, rocking ways before long.

I couldn’t be more thrilled with the Michigan love on this latest album. Starting with “The Once and Future Carpenter”, “I’m not from Detroit but her diesel engine carries me,” to the track “Pretty Girl From Michigan” in their classic “Pretty Girl From’ mantra.

Interestingly enough, their father, Jim Avett, has launched his musical career under the name, Jim Avett and Family.

Listen to The Carpenter here

By Kevin Alan Lamb

A no named girl in a world filled and spilled with the emotions of the loony and their loony notions

Another catchy tune strum, on a banjo just for fun, exhausted by those certain they’ll convince you they are the one

Headphones breathe sanity through my ears into my head, “And we all fall down,” said the Avett Brothers, long before we’re ever dead

The Tallest Man On Earth inspires the fire of the cool, calm and serene, while Forest Sun shines his lights and reminds me I’m awake amidst a dream

“Scar Tissue” reconnects me to the birds in the trees, reminds of the love I’ve long been absent of, that weakens in the knees

We satisfy our desires specific to a time and a place, I cant pretend I close my eyes and see your face

Honesty is a proof too strong to be in harmony with the chords of this particular song

Hearts and heads hang on the breath of the one they most desire

Women, like fires burn alive and filled with scorn, security at the psych. ward has been overrun, signal the horn!

This is my life and it is with tremendous balance I keep it on course

I will not ask for your heart and please be certain to listen

Reality is often in plain sight, yet people choose to miss it

Fools believe love blows like clouds in the wind, give it time they say

Love is immediate we are just too afraid to admit it

Physical release is a pleasure and we often deviate the course to get it

Refuse to compromise on the love you know exists because you have felt it in dreams

Accept that the weak are weaker, and the dark-hearted will try and slay you to your knees

Grow from the burden of love which you cannot reciprocate until it manifests

Smile with all of your heart as time remains the only genuine test.

I ain’t from Texas, but I made my way from Dallas And I know the lonesome sound is following I ain’t a gambler, but I can recognize a hand And when to hold, when the queens are staring back at me Once I was a carpenter, man my hands were calloused I could swing a metal mallet sure and straight But I took to the highway, a poet young and hungry And I left the timbers where they lay
Forever I will move like the world that turns beneath me And when I lose my direction I’ll look up to the sky And when the black cloak drags upon the ground I’ll be ready to surrender, and remember Well we’re all in this together If I live the life I’m given, I wont be scared to die

And I don’t come from Detroit, but her diesel motors pull me And I followed till I finally lost my way And now I spend my days in search of a woman we called purpose And if I ever pass back through here town I’ll stay
I will move like the world that turns beneath me And when I lose my direction I’ll look up to the sky And when the black cloak drags upon the ground I’ll be ready to surrender, and remember Well we’re all in this together If I live the life I’m given, I won’t be scared to die
And my life is but a coin, pulled from an empty pocket Dropped into a slot with dreams of sevens close behind And hope and fear go with it, and moon and the sun go spinning Like the numbers and fruits before my eyes Sometimes I hit, sometimes it robs me blind Sometimes I hit, sometimes it robs me blind
Forever I will move like the world that turns beneath me And when I lose my direction I’ll look up to the sky And when the black cloak drags upon the ground I’ll be ready to surrender, and remember Well we’re all in this together If I live the life I’m given, I won’t be scared to die

New song “The Once and Future Carpenter” from The Avett Brothers played on CMT Unplugged. I do not own the rights to this video and performance, all rights belong to CMT. I’m just uploading this video to promote the new song and the whole CMT Unplugged session.

Carry On

 By Kevin Alan Lamb

It’s not easy, but what is?

His life breathes in your hope, your vision, the love you see because the love you’re missing

Pain runs ice cold through your veins to numb the pores that release tears every time you hear his name

But the cold will pass, your love will last, your light will shine through to inspire his passing

Losing loves ones is not misfortune we can ration

It penetrates our soul, flooding our dreams as the most unfriendly foe

Like our limbs in cold water, our emotions cripple and freeze, bringing us to our knees, despite our please, angers and flight from disbelief

Our heart remains, our basic need to function refuses to take a back seat

For the first time we conceive what it is we really need

Warmth in the form of a loving embrace

A smile that inspires despite a previous lacking trace

It’s suppose to hurt; tear you apart; but if you do not endure his story will only carry on this far

Breathe the life that he can no longer

Seek the love he has left behind

Be the gift of phenomenon in the form of light in loom of darkness

Jump for joy and seek those who embody the love he employed

Seek the world and enable him to smile and love from a kingdom above

There’s a darkness upon me that’s flooded in light
In the fine print they tell me what’s wrong and what’s right
And it comes in black and it comes in white
And I’m frightened by those that don’t see it

When nothing is owed or deserved or expected
And your life doesn’t change by the man that’s elected
If you’re loved by someone, you’re never rejected
Decide what to be and go be it

There was a dream and one day I could see it
Like a bird in a cage I broke in and demanded that somebody free it
And there was a kid with a head full of doubt
So I’ll scream til I die and the last of those bad thoughts are finally out

There’s a darkness upon you that’s flooded in light
And in the fine print they tell you what’s wrong and what’s right
And it flies by day and it flies by night
And I’m frightened by those that don’t see it

There was a dream and one day I could see it
Like a bird in a cage I broke in and demanded that somebody free it
And there was a kid with a head full of doubt
So I’ll scream til I die and the last of those bad thoughts are finally out

There was a dream and one day I could see it
Like a bird in a cage I broke in and demanded that somebody free it
And there was a kid with a head full of doubt
So I’ll scream til I die and the last of those bad thoughts are finally out

There’s a darkness upon me that’s flooded in light
In the fine print they tell me what’s wrong and what’s right
There’s a darkness upon me that’s flooded in light
And I’m frightened by those that don’t see it

Thanks for the Lyrics!

By Kevin Alan Lamb

Good Signs are a simple sign of hope. We will use Good Signs to inspire light in loom of darkness, love in the place of fear, and community to combat disunity. Good Signs inspire Peace, Love and Happiness by making civil duty “cool” a way of life. Below will you find a Good Sign that we are offering as a profile picture on Facebook. If you’d like to be part of the solution and put the community of the world before the community of one, join our efforts to open the eyes of the heart and commit to a better way.

This Is A Good Sign
